How Algorithms Shape Our world

Kevin Slavin speaks about the clandestine algorithmic world. It is a world of immense complexity that is ubiqutous, yet unseen (and not really understood).  The "algoworld" is a place of prediction. It is a place that seeks to make sense out of chaos, but, as Slavin argues, ends up being chaotic itself. Amid the microseconds and immense amount of capital involved, Slavin shows us how the algoworld is much closer to us that we might think. Of great interest is his claim that algorithms are now being used not only in the financial space but also make sense of cultural and semantic data (how very web 3.0). I'm going to have to have a rewatch of this video; it truly is that good. I'm also going to see what kind of relevant reading I can find, and will update then.
