Another Year

The beauty of Mike Leigh's Another Year is in the subtlety of the dialogue with which he paints a deep and almost voyeuristic picture of real people living their lives. For some, life is blissful. But for many, it is tumultuous. What is so powerful about this film is Leigh's ability to artfully display the emotional complexity of everyday life - people's struggle to find happiness; people's jealously of those that have found it; people's determination to veil their depression. Another Year is easily the most intelligent film I've seen in recent memory; it was captivating.
